About Us

Fishbowl Innovations began operations in June 2004. What began as a love of the reef aquarium hobby by two brothers, gradually morphed from manufacturing ideas into a business.

Our goal is to create innovative products that simplify the reef keeping hobby, creating and atmosphere in which novice aquarists can be more successful at keeping salt water aquariums, and experienced aquarists can focus more of their energy on aquaculture rather than maintenance.

A bit about the people behind the scenes:

Steve Connell graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a degree in Industrial Technology. After a brief stint at Lockheed, he decided self employment was a much better idea. Steve brings a keen business sense and and in depth knowledge of manufacturing process to the business. He is currently running a 100 gallon acrylic tank with many zoas and ricordia varieties as well as some SPS.

James Connell graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a degree in Computer Science. James started his schooling with the intention of studying Marine Biology but switched to software engineering. He was the first of the brothers to be bit by the aquarium bug, and was more than happy to leave behind the Silicon Valley software engineering scene to apply his engineering skills to reef aquarium equipment. Pressed for space in his small San Francisco apartment, James runs a small 58 gallon glass Oceanic SPS aquarium, complete with a runaway Xenia problem.
